Buy Kaylie Abela

I've launched a new blog called Buy Kaylie Abela which you can get to any time by clicking the "For Sale & Special Requests" link on my menu to the left. "Buy Kaylie Abela" is supposed to be a play on words. Since it only lists recent pieces without any subjective insight whatsoever, I like to think of it as being a blog by Kaylie Abela.

Threadline Mini 1

Instead of whining and whimpering about failing as a dedicated artist, I decided to create smaller pieces to occupy my time and hopefully get me thinking about a body of work again. I'd like to think of it as temporary, but I'm not setting an end date. The pros of smaller work are that they're obviously easier to create in my cozy studio apartment, they keep me "moving" artistically in terms of keeping my hands busy and keeping my eye tuned to color and balance, and they are honestly much easier to sell-- which I have to admit has been a driving force lately, although it seems selfish. That "cozy" studio apartment swallows every penny of my salary. I'm aware that profit driven artwork doesn't merit the same respect as viscerally driven or statement provoking art, but I need some time. It kind of feels like a marriage separation that we genuinely hope doesn't result in divorce.
