Mailing Lists & VP

This may seem premature, but I am trying to compile my mailing lists in my free time. I gave into VistaPrint last night, so now I have 100 postcards and 250 business cards coming my way (not-so) soon. ("Slow Delivery - 21 days" That's nonsense! Who does that?!) I'd like a bigger network to distribute the postcards to. For those who don't recieve phsycial postcards I will send an electronic one with updated information. I plan to do this every 6 months. I am cautiously deciding which galleries to include on the mailing lists. As of now, most of the recipients are friends and family who actively ask about or seem interested in my work, so I could definitely benefit from more contacts who are active in the art field. (Anyone interested can send me an e-mail to kaylie.abela@gmail.com with either your e-mail address, which I suppose will already be in the message, and/or mailing address.) Some things I need to sort out:

  • Does anyone know if blogger has an application for subscribing to e-mailing lists? I checked once before but couldn't find what I was looking for; you know how websites have a "sign up for e-mail newsletters" button next to a little field for text? That's what I want connected to my blog!
  • If you send out e-postcards or updates, how often do you do it? I think 6 months is appropriate for USPS postcard mailings because of the cost and the effort to mail them. Also, my work doesn't change enough to elicit a new postcard more often than that. But I have a hunch that it would be acceptable to e-mail interested people more often than once every 6 months. Any opinions?
  • The time has come. Over and over again. I need a website, but I don't know how to make one. I have only a basic understanding of HTML. Is it very lame to use a template to create my website? I am not a graphic designer but I'm pretty sure I can take care of that part. I just need a basic layout I guess. Does anyone know where I can buy a domain name that comes with easy builder tools?
  • Is it bad branding to change the look of your business card often? I want to be remembered, but obviously the image needs to be updated. I lightly addressed this dilemma and included pictures here. I think it would be acceptable if I keep the layout, fonts & styles the same, and change only the picture in the background. But will that be possible? I can't tell yet.
