Centerfold Submission

These are the works on paper I submitted for consideration as an ArtScope centerfold. I've also added a statement about the work, which I think might be bland but works.

Book Prints (1-18)

Statement

In the Book Prints series, eighteen monotype self-portraits comprise the pages of a handmade hardcover book. Because of its four inch-by-six inch size, the Book Prints series is charming and inviting. Loose depictions of the artist are characteristic of the various people one person can be. Similar to my work in other fields of art, possibility and instinct are prevalent themes.

Creating monotypes is a way to combine both methodical and intuitive ways of working. The procedural, technical practice of printmaking is the balancing counterpart to a free, spontaneous way of mark making. I seek this balance in my everyday life as well as in my artwork.
