it will mean something different to everyone

Though I don't relate to Julian Schnabel’s statements, his 1978 statement has some highlights, like “I am not making things. I am making a synonym for truth with all its falsehoods, oblique as it is,” and “A bouquet of mistakes.” I enjoyed reading Schnabel’s statement from 1983 (which is longer, like an essay) because it took the point of view as something like an artist’s mentor. It seems to strive to desensitize a reader (perhaps an emerging artist) to perceptions of their work, clarifying that it will mean something different to everyone and that there is no use wasting energy to correct everyone.
